Census Results

In parallel with the participatory survey conducted between April and September, a professional census was carried out by specialists and trained volunteers, in collaboration with the Swiss Ornithological Institute.

The data collected made it possible to identify 327 buildings that are home to one or more of these species:

  • 295 buildings occupied by swifts

  • 42 occupied by swallows

  • 29 occupied by bats

To obtain these results, nearly 200 hours of fieldwork were conducted by about 20 trained volunteers, supported by professionals. The reports you submitted on the platform complemented these observations.

Together, they helped create a unique map showing the presence of these species in the city. These species and their nests are protected by cantonal law. Check out the interactive map!

The survey led to the development of a strategy to support birds that nest in buildings, aimed at protecting and strengthening populations of swifts, swallows, and bats.
