This proposal was not selected because:

Hello,

Thank you for your contribution to the suggestion box. However, after review, we have not selected this proposal.

The Sunday time slot, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., is indeed a last chance for citizens to exercise their civic right, but it is not intended to encourage last-minute voting. In fact, this time slot accounts for less than 2.5% of ballots cast (not including those cast at La Louve), making mail-in voting a more effective tool for increasing participation.

Please note that constant and ongoing efforts are being made to simplify access to voting, through initiatives such as the “evenings for new voters” organized by the Lausanne Office for Immigrants (BLI), the “citizen bus” that travels through neighborhoods to inform residents about issues related to citizenship and political rights, as well as initiatives by the Canton and Easyvote to raise awareness among citizens. For more information, you can also download the VoteInfo app or watch the videos produced by the City of Lausanne or Easyvote for upcoming votes.

Thank you again for this idea.

New Traditions Surrounding Election Sunday

Not selected

1. Context:

The exercise of political rights is a right that must be valued, but also a culture that must be sustained. However, the City of Lausanne ranks lowest in Switzerland in terms of participation in federal referendums and elections (see FSO data from City Statistics).

--------------------

2. Proposal:

Organize non-political events on election Sundays to draw people to polling places, foster social connections, and bring generations together around a new tradition.

Examples:

  • Swap

  • Seasonal Food Markets

  • Children’s Flea Market

  • Free Market

  • Pop-up café-croissant canteen

  • Concert

  • Pastry sale by students

  • Repair Workshops

--------------------

3. Motivation:

We need to increase the participation rate in Lausanne to foster community life and collectively improve everyone’s quality of life.
