This proposal was not selected because:

Hello,

Thank you for your contribution to the Suggestion Box.

As the unit responsible for coordinating major projects in the Lausanne train station area and overseeing the redevelopment of public spaces once construction sites are removed, we at the Pôle Gare unit can provide you with the following answers.

Your suggestion was submitted to the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), which reviewed the solution you proposed. Unfortunately, your proposal is not feasible for logistical reasons, particularly given the number of days required to store suitcases in cold storage or freezers to eliminate bed bugs.

Best regards

Preventing Bed Bugs Upon Returning from a Trip

Avatar: Alexandra Alexandra

1. Context:

Bed bugs are a plague—very difficult to eliminate once they’ve taken up residence in a home. Often, we bring them back (without realizing it) from trips, hidden in a suitcase or backpack.

2. Proposal:

The idea, then, is to provide (for a small fee) a cold storage room (or large freezer) where people could leave their suitcases upon returning from a trip, just long enough to eliminate any unwanted guests, rather than bringing them home. Ideally, the location would be at the train station or nearby.

In the past, many municipalities provided communal freezers, but this service is gradually disappearing, and, as far as I know, there is currently no equivalent private service—at least not in a location that is easily accessible upon returning from a trip.
