Hello,

Thank you for your contribution to the suggestion box.

We are delighted to inform you that the City of Lausanne has already implemented a major initiative called the RCD Plan (Sustainable Collective Catering). This plan aims to improve the quality of meals served in childcare facilities, school cafeterias, and municipal employee cafeterias. As part of the RCD II Plan for 2020–2023, the city is committed to prioritizing locally sourced, Swiss, and certified products—including organic items—to promote healthy and sustainable eating. The objectives of the RCD II plan include increasing the share of locally sourced purchases to 60%, raising the share of Swiss purchases to 70%, increasing the share of certified products to 60%, raising the share of organic products to 15%, and stepping up efforts to combat food waste. The final results will be announced in the first quarter of 2024.

Organic Food for Our Children

Selected

1. Context:

The negative health effects of pesticides are no longer a matter of debate. The latest episode of *Temps Présent* sounds the alarm (January 12, 2023—Fruits and Vegetables: A Cocktail of Explosive Chemicals) on this issue.

2. Proposal:

The City of Lausanne should establish a central purchasing office for the city’s daycare centers and after-school care programs (APEMS) that offers organic, local, and seasonal products.

The use of these fruits and vegetables—at a minimum—and, ideally, dairy products and meat should be mandatory for all daycare centers and APEMS in the Lausanne network.

--------------------

3. Motivation:

Health protection begins at a very young age. Let’s give this gift to the children of Lausanne.
