This proposal was not selected because:

After reviewing this proposal, we consider that it primarily concerns initiatives falling within the scope of private nonprofit organizations, as the City is not intended to replace their mission or to set up systems for collecting donations and redistributing funds.

We therefore suggest that you contact the two main organizations active in Lausanne in the retail and restaurant sectors:

 1) Lausanne Merchants’ Cooperative Society (SCCL), info@commercants-lausannois.ch (https://www.commercants-lausannois.ch/)

2) GastroVaud, Lausanne Chapter, Ms. Susanne Sax, President, susan.sax@gastrolausanne.ch (c/o Hôtel 46a, Av. de Rhodanie, 1007 Lausanne)

Post-COVID Support for Our Neighborhood Businesses

1. Context:

While chatting with a local restaurant owner as I waited for my order, I saw firsthand the hardship many of them are facing due to the prolonged closure of their businesses during this pandemic. I’m fortunate to be able to help a little, if possible, through a modest donation of my own—though I haven’t yet found a way to do so.

2. Proposal:

Is it possible to set up a platform to support our favorite local businesses, based on donations (voluntary, of course) from individuals who are able and willing to contribute?

Ideally, we could revive the Vaud Canton’s WelQome initiative in partnership with the Qoqa platform (https://qblog.qoqa.ch/fr/posts/4211). But at the very least, a similar platform that would allow people to directly support our local businesses through small donations could be useful.

3. Motivation:

The financial impact might not be huge, but it would be there. If any other initiatives already exist, I would be very happy to learn about them.
