This proposal was selected because:

For the City, the safety of the route to school is a key issue. It’s worth noting that, in this context, a significant number of measures have been implemented in recent years (annual campaigns, creation of speed-reduced zones, etc.).

In addition, targeted improvements have already been made to this intersection. In 2019, the crossing at Chemin de Pierrefleur was improved for pedestrians, notably through narrowing the roadway and widening the median.

It should also be noted that the police conduct regular speed checks along this section of Avenue du Grey.

Other ad hoc initiatives may be added to this system in the coming years.

Finally, we share your concerns, particularly regarding the layout of Avenue du Grey, which also align with the requests of local residents who would like to see a 30 zone implemented.

That said, transforming an intersection in line with your proposal would require significant work and financial investment. We will incorporate this into our planning and explore the possibility of taking initial, modest steps in line with your request.

We hope this information has been helpful. Sincerely,

Redesigning the intersection of Avenue du Grey and Chemin de Pierrefleur.

1. Context:

In our neighborhood, the main transportation route runs between the Collège des Bergières and the Maison de Quartier du Désert, passing by the Pierrefleur school and St. Matthieu Church. Traffic on Avenue du Grey therefore poses a danger to our children and seniors who cross it. This traffic will increase once the neighboring Plaines-du-Loup neighborhood is completed.

2. Proposal:

Redesign the intersection to allow those using non-motorized transportation (bicycles, pedestrians, scooters, etc.) to cross Avenue du Grey via a direct and safe at-grade crossing. (See study by the Laboratoire du Désert).

3. Motivation:

Correcting an outdated 1960s urban design that divides our neighborhood in two with a six-lane road. Vehicles travel on this road at (in some cases, more than) 50 km/h.

The beneficiaries will be the 450 children and 100 senior parishioners in the neighborhood who cross it daily. They will be able to reach their destinations safely and even ride their bikes across it without coming into conflict with cars or pedestrians.
