Bicycle Parking Spaces for Avenue Louis-Vulliemin

Avatar: Dimitri Goumas Dimitri Goumas

1. Context:

On Avenue Louis-Vulliemin, there are currently no designated bike parking spaces. As a result, many residents and users lock their bikes to streetlights, window bars, or other street furniture. This situation creates difficulties both for cyclists, who lack suitable and secure parking options, and for pedestrians, as the bicycles obstruct part of the sidewalk. The problem is particularly troublesome for people with strollers or those with limited mobility.

2. Proposal:

I propose installing bicycle parking racks at two locations:

  1. On the small dirt road located at the 180° hairpin turn after the building at number 28 (GPS coordinates: 46.5284504, 6.6340122). Since this space is somewhat larger, it would be ideal to install a covered bike shelter there to protect bicycles from the elements (rain, snow). To blend in better with the landscape, a wooden structure would be particularly suitable, harmonizing with the natural setting and the surrounding woods.

  2. On Chemin du Petit-Château, by replacing the iron barrels currently there with bike parking spaces.

These two locations would offer a practical and secure solution for users, without significantly reducing the space available for other uses.

3. Motivation:

The creation of these parking spaces would significantly improve the quality of life for residents and users in the neighborhood.

For cyclists, this would provide a safe, convenient, and orderly place to park their bikes, with the option of a covered shelter that protects against the elements.

For pedestrians, this would free up the sidewalks and facilitate movement, particularly for parents with strollers, seniors, or people with disabilities.

For the community, this would promote cycling—a sustainable mode of transportation encouraged by the City—while improving harmonious coexistence among users of public spaces.
