This proposal was not selected because:

Hello,

Thank you for your contribution

Your idea has not been selected because the City of Lausanne is responsible for the general organization of schools, the management of infrastructure, and services related to after-school care. However, the content of school curricula—including the integration of activities such as meditation—falls exclusively under the jurisdiction of the Canton of Vaud.

We therefore invite you to submit this suggestion to the cantonal authorities, who are responsible for developing educational programs.

Best regards,

The “Boîte à idées” team.

1. Context:

Children’s emotional well-being is essential to their development and learning. Intense school schedules and numerous demands can cause stress, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating. Lausanne, an innovative city committed to quality of life, could integrate meditation and mindfulness practices into schools to create a peaceful educational environment conducive to children’s well-being.

2. Proposal:

My proposal is to introduce a meditation program in Lausanne’s schools. This program would include:

  • Daily meditation sessions: Short (5- to 10-minute) guided meditation sessions, at the beginning or end of the school day, to help children refocus, relax, and improve their concentration.

  • Teacher Training: Teachers and school staff would be trained to lead these sessions and integrate mindfulness into their teaching methods.

  • Dedicated meditation spaces: Create quiet spaces in schools where students can meditate or rest.

  • Curriculum Integration: Incorporate mindfulness into personal and social development classes or physical education to help children better manage their emotions.

  • Workshops for Parents and Students: Workshops led by professionals to raise awareness among students and families about the benefits of meditation.

3. Motivation:

It is crucial that the City of Lausanne consider this proposal, as it aims to significantly improve the well-being of children, who represent the future of our society. By integrating meditation into the daily school routine, we provide students with valuable tools to manage stress, improve their concentration, and develop essential social-emotional skills. The primary beneficiaries would be the students, but also the teachers, who would see a positive impact on classroom atmosphere and the effectiveness of learning. Furthermore, such a program would strengthen Lausanne’s reputation as a forward-thinking city in the areas of well-being and educational innovation.
