Stop Transgenerational Violence: Help for Parents in Precarious Situations

Avatar: Ursula Sila-Gasser Ursula Sila-Gasser

Your Project

  • Stop Transgenerational Violence

  • As an ASCA-certified therapist, I offer therapeutic consultations to parents who experienced abuse during their childhood, to help them heal from their trauma and find the inner resources that will enable them to fully embrace their role as parents. I would like to receive financial assistance to support parents facing economic hardship. In fact, I am frequently contacted by parents who would like to work with me in this way but find it difficult to afford it for financial reasons.

Summary of Your Project

Domestic violence is often passed down from one generation to the next.

In fact, a way of functioning is learned from childhood through the repetition of the family model. However, being a parent is never easy, and for those who grew up in a violent environment, the challenges are even greater, among other reasons because:

  • They may not have been able to recognize the violence that prevailed within their families, because that was their reality

  • They themselves may still be suffering from the aftereffects of the abuse they endured.

  • They may not have had a satisfactory role model

(See article https://www.vaudfamille.ch/N1657582/mettre-fin-a-la-violence-intra-familiale.html)

So… how can we help those who want to put an end to this transgenerational violence and who wish to sow the seeds of love, joy, and respect within their families and among their children? As a therapist specializing in supporting adults who have experienced childhood abuse, I am often faced with a painful dilemma: not all parents have the financial means to afford this kind of counseling. I’d like to be able to offer my services to parents who otherwise couldn’t afford them.

  • Location: at my office, 35 Av. Rumine, 1005 Lausanne

  • Target Audience: Parents of children under 16 who are in economically and/or socially vulnerable situations and live in the municipality of Lausanne

Your Request

Maximum amount granted: CHF 3,000

  • Detailed amount requested: 2,500.-

  • Total project budget: 100 Fr per session (I’m offering a 20 Fr discount off the regular price and asking parents to contribute 20 Fr, also to ensure greater involvement

  • 25 sessions, for approximately 5 to 10 parents (since I practice “solution-focused therapy,” a brief therapy focused on a clear vision of the goals to be achieved and which draws on each person’s resources, the number of sessions needed to achieve good results is often fewer than 5)
