Quebec Storytelling Day at the Cinéma Bellevaux

Avatar: CinéBobines Québec CinéBobines Québec

Organization of a free day dedicated to Quebec storytelling at the Cinéma Bellevaux, open to residents of the Borde–Bellevaux neighborhood as well as the entire population of Lausanne. The event features five screenings suitable for all ages, accompanied by opportunities for discussion and cultural outreach.

This project aims to create a welcoming and inclusive event that fosters local connections as well as intergenerational and intercultural exchanges. Through film and storytelling, it encourages the sharing of experiences, dialogue, and creativity in a warm and inclusive setting accessible to everyone.

The project transforms the Cinéma Bellevaux into a place for gathering and imagination for one winter day. Free and open to all Lausanne residents, it is also designed to be a highlight of neighborhood life, with the aim of strengthening ties among residents of the Borde–Bellevaux area and promoting an essential local cultural facility.

In the middle of winter, this event offers a welcoming space where families, young people, seniors, and those who are isolated can come together around a shared cultural experience. The Quebec folktales presented—blending realism and fantasy—explore universal themes such as family, solidarity, memory, the passing down of traditions, and our relationship with time.

The program highlights several works from Quebec, including three from the world of Fred Pellerin, a leading storyteller known for his tales inspired by oral tradition and folk legends. His stories bring to life deeply human characters and villages that span generations.

The featured films are:
– *Babine* (2008), which tells the story of a man who is different in a village marked by fears and superstitions;
– *Ésimésac* (2012), centered on a character seeking to protect his village and preserve human bonds;
– *Chasse-Galerie: La légende* (2016), an adaptation of a Quebec myth about a supernatural pact in winter;
– L’Arracheuse de temps (2021), a journey into a world where family stories come to life;
– Ma belle-mère est une sorcière (2025), a contemporary story blending humor, mystery, and teenage imagination.

Between screenings, discussion sessions and cultural mediation activities allow participants to extend their film experience, exchange perspectives, and discover the richness of Quebec storytelling in a participatory setting. These moments strengthen intergenerational and intercultural dialogue and encourage participation in local cultural life.

The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Cinéma Bellevaux to strengthen its roots in the neighborhood and highlight its role as a local cultural venue. Through this festive, cultural, and accessible event, it highlights creativity, imagination, and free access to culture in Lausanne, while helping to strengthen social cohesion and bonds among residents.
