This proposal was selected because:

Hello,

We have reviewed your proposal regarding safety on Marc Dufour Street and at the Mont d’Or roundabout, and we thank you for this idea.

Here are the initiatives currently under consideration or in progress:

  1. An initiative is underway to remove certain parking spaces on Avenue Marc-Dufour in the downhill direction. This should improve visibility for drivers and pedestrians. For more information, please see the image below;

  2. As for the idea of narrowing the roadway—similar to what was done on Boulevard de Grancy—it should be noted that implementing this on this section of the street is complex due to bus traffic and their maneuvers at the roundabout.

Pedestrian safety, particularly that of students, is a major concern for the City of Lausanne. Your feedback is valuable and helps us develop strategies to improve the situation.

We remain at your disposal for any further information and send you our warmest regards.

Crossing the Mont d’Or roundabout for pedestrians

Selected

1. Background:

To increase the visibility of pedestrians crossing Marc Dufour Street at the Mont d’Or roundabout, it would be helpful to propose extending the sidewalk (marked with yellow paint).

--------------------

2. Proposal:

Vehicles traveling down Marc Dufour Street near the Mont d’OR roundabout are going very fast and have limited visibility to the right due to the parking spaces. It is very dangerous for pedestrians (adults and children alike) to cross the street at this location, despite the crosswalk.

A speed bump would be the best solution to force vehicles traveling downhill to finally drive at a speed appropriate to the situation and the level of danger.

Alternatively, a sidewalk extension could be marked with yellow paint to allow pedestrians to step past parked vehicles and finally get a view of Marc Dufour Street—while remaining relatively safe—before stepping onto the crosswalk. Extensions of this type have already been installed on Boulevard de Grancy.

--------------------

3. Motivation:

Pedestrian traffic is very heavy in this area. In particular, many students without adult supervision cross the street throughout the day, coming from or heading to the Collège du Belvédère, the APEMS des Plaines, etc.

The current situation makes crossing the street very dangerous for pedestrians.
