Hello,

Thank you for your contribution to the suggestion box.

Your idea has been selected, and a technical feasibility study will be launched shortly.

The Montbenon Esplanade, located right in the city center, offers features that make it ideal for a sports area, particularly due to its accessibility and the opportunity to relieve congestion at the Chauderon street workout site. The diversity of visitors and the presence of amenities such as restrooms, children’s play areas, and a fountain further underscore the relevance of this project.

However, despite these positive aspects, several elements require in-depth technical analysis. It is essential to take into account heritage preservation, as well as the visibility of the installation, to enhance the sense of security. Furthermore, the site’s structure—built on a slab covering a parking garage—imposes load-bearing constraints, which could limit the use of heavy construction equipment.

A study conducted jointly by the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and the City of Lausanne on the use of urban sports facilities highlights the importance of designing accessible and inclusive infrastructure for all users, both women and men. This principle will be incorporated into any new infrastructure projects under consideration.

Once the feasibility study is complete, we will be sure to contact you to invite you to contribute to the discussion regarding which modules to implement.

Street Workout for Montbenon

1. Context:

The Montbenon Esplanade is a magnificent square in Lausanne.

Unfortunately, its reputation precedes it in terms of safety and atmosphere. It is high time this space was returned to the citizens.

In the same vein as the new children’s playground that was created on the west side of the park, it would be possible to create a sports area in the southeast part of the park.

--------------------

2. Proposal:

I propose creating a space dedicated to sports activities in the southeastern part of the park. A space similar to the one set up at the Usine de Pierre-de-Plan, with bars for calisthenics training and machines for gentler workouts and mobility exercises.

--------------------

3. Motivation:

This initiative would make the park more attractive to residents, while also encouraging them to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Furthermore, just like the sports area at Chauderon, it’s much more pleasant to see people exercising and engaging in constructive activities rather than letting this space fall into disrepair and be left in the hands of unsavory characters.
