The Suggestion Box Team,

Biodiversity and Noise Control

1. Context:

Two urban issues are important: promoting biodiversity and combating noise. I’ve noticed that the grass, commonly found around buildings, is very low in biodiversity and generates a lot of noise when mowed.

How many times this summer were the lawns mowed even though they were yellow, simply because a maintenance contract had to be honored? Furthermore, maintenance is often carried out by semi-professionals who work outside of normal hours, causing disturbances during mealtimes and in the evening

2. Proposal:

Ban the use of motorized gardening tools on municipal property in private areas.

You can always mow your lawn with a machine, but that might encourage you to grow something other than grass.

--------------------

3. Motivation:

The beneficiaries are all Lausanne residents: biodiversity and reduced noise benefit everyone.

More generally, the need to slow down (by using less motorized transportation) is essential in our society
