  • The City does not plan to implement measures in line with your proposal. In fact, we do not wish to allocate space to bicycles by taking it away from the space currently designated for pedestrians.

  • Closing a sidewalk without providing an alternative on the same side is also not an option.

  • We want to avoid forcing pedestrians to cross busy streets twice.

Use of Certain Sidewalks as Bicycle Lanes

1. Context:

While many roads are being redesigned to add bike lanes, there may be ways to add them in certain locations with minimal construction.

--------------------

2. Proposal:

My proposal is to create two-way bike lanes on sidewalks that do not lead to any access points, while keeping the other side for pedestrians.

What I mean by “no access”:

  • bridge (Pont-Bessières,...)

  • wall side (Avenue de l’Université, Avenue Mon-Repos, ...)

--------------------

3. Motivation:

This helps reduce road construction work and creates a safer environment for cyclists, as there are still narrow streets where it is difficult for all modes of transportation to share the road.
