Your Project in Detail
Project Objectives: 1. Promote diversity among families and across generations through capoeira and Afro-Brazilian culture, by incorporating inclusive activities suitable for everyone. 2. Strengthen family and intergenerational bonds through shared workshops where parents, grandparents, and children participate together. 3. Create a space for socializing and intercultural and social exchange to foster the integration of immigrant and non-native-speaking families in a supportive environment. 4. To encourage social and cultural diversity by bringing together different community members around a shared activity. Project Structure: Themed Saturday Afternoons (1 per quarter). Each afternoon will be organized around a specific aspect of Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian culture, with activities that will allow everyone to discover, learn, and share. 1st Saturday: History and Origins of Capoeira - Introduction to Capoeira: Explanation of its historical and cultural origins, particularly the influence of African peoples brought to Brazil through slavery and their resistance expressed through this martial art. - Introduction to Capoeira through interactive workshops with an intergenerational group. - Time to share: Snack time featuring Brazilian specialties 2nd Saturday: Afro-Brazilian Art and Music - Music workshop: An introduction to the traditional instruments used in Capoeira. A rhythmic workshop for everyone, where everyone can learn and play together as a group. - Introduction to singing and traditional songs: An exploration of Portuguese songs associated with Capoeira, with explanations of the lyrics and their meanings. - Time for sharing: Snacks featuring Brazilian specialties 3rd Saturday: Afro-Brazilian Cuisine - Family Cooking Workshop: Preparation of a traditional Brazilian dish - Group tasting and social gathering: A meal where families can taste and share the dish they made together, fostering conversation and connection. 4th Saturday: Celebration and Capoeira Roda - Capoeira Roda: All participants form a large roda (circle) to watch or participate in Capoeira demonstrations, putting into practice what they have learned. - Testimonials and sharing of experiences: A time for families, children, and seniors to speak, allowing them to share their experiences and what they’ve taken away from the project. - A participatory buffet where each family brings a specialty of their choice to showcase the neighborhood’s culinary diversity. Expected Benefits: - Foster intercultural encounters and strengthen social cohesion in the new neighborhood. - Raise awareness of cultural diversity among young people and families through an inclusive and educational project. - Strengthen family bonds through fun and educational activities where everyone has a role to play. This project creates a warm and welcoming space for people to come together, fostering cultural exchange and the discovery of Afro-Brazilian heritage.
