Coworking Space with Community Childcare

Name of your project
I work U play
Two-line description
We launched Lausanne’s first solidarity-based coworking space and daycare in early 2023. Our goal? To enable parents to work on their professional projects while their children are cared for by volunteers of all ages. Our hope? To be accessible to everyone by offering our services at a very low cost or for free (for parents who cannot pay) and by setting up shop right in the heart of the city (Place de la Gare).
Target Audience
Primarily mothers in Lausanne who lack full-time childcare and wish to have time to pursue their career goals. Current main beneficiaries: Families without family support (the primary source of childcare in Switzerland) or with limited or insufficient access to daycare spots; single-parent families; mothers seeking a separation or in the early stages of one; parents working part-time, looking for work, developing a business venture, or completing training to re-enter the workforce
Your Project in Detail
In Switzerland, the arrival of children is almost always linked to women either stopping work or reducing their working hours (Source: 2021 Family Report, Federal Statistical Office). This leads to poverty and isolation for many mothers. The association has therefore sought to address one of the main barriers to mothers’ re-entry into the workforce: the lack of or insufficient childcare for preschool-aged children. To do this, we provide parents with a coworking space combined with childcare, all at a low cost. Since our association is in its first year, it is still not well known to many parents. The results of our pilot project show that parents typically stay in our space for several weeks or even a few months (while they receive training or look for a job), and that word of mouth is the primary way our beneficiaries learn about us. There is therefore still a great deal of work to be done to raise awareness among families in Lausanne. We are therefore seeking financial support to implement an effective communication strategy that will allow all parents in Lausanne to learn about our organization and take advantage of our services. Primary objective of our new communication campaign: To raise awareness of our organization among as many young mothers in Lausanne as possible in order to fill 100% of our slots. Secondary objective: To invite as many potential new beneficiaries as possible to an event focused on the theme “Balancing Work and Motherhood,” which we will host in late February 2024 at our facilities. To achieve this, we plan to display posters on select TL bus routes starting in January, as well as launch a targeted Instagram campaign to invite young parents to our event.
When will your project be implemented?
The communication campaign will take place in late January/early February 2024, and the event will take place in late February 2024.
