The Concept
This year, the “Nature in the City” Contest is providing financial support and assistance for projects that promote biodiversity around apartment buildings and private homes.
Whether you’re a tenant, homeowner, building manager, or cooperative member, enter the contest and submit your project to bring nature right to your doorstep. From among the submitted projects, the jury will select one or more winning projects. They will then receive funding of up to CHF 10,000, distributed among the selected projects to enable their implementation. The winning teams will also benefit from support from a biodiversity specialist, who will provide theoretical and practical advice.

Who is it for?
Any resident, property owner, business, association, or private or quasi-public institution located within the Lausanne area who wishes to bring nature to their property or around their building (excluding public property). Are you willing to welcome flora and fauna in need of space to your outdoor areas? Everyone is welcome!
If you’re interested, feel free to invite your neighbors to join you in brainstorming ideas for the project’s design, layout, and maintenance. A poster is available to inform and invite everyone in your building to help build this project with you!
Where?
Projects must be carried out within the municipal boundaries of Lausanne, exclusively on private property. If you do not own the property, you will need the consent of the owner or property manager. In this case, a letter of support can be requested by emailing parcs.domaines@lausanne.ch. Lawns, vacant lots, small open spaces, alleys, courtyards, and walls are all potential playgrounds for bringing your project to life!
When?
The application period runs from May 16 to September 17. You therefore have four months to brainstorm and design your project, then submit all the necessary documents on this page. The Parks and Public Lands Department will assess the feasibility of the projects, after which a jury will meet to make the final decision.
