Developing self-sustaining businesses accessible 24 hours a day in Lausanne

Avatar: M.Y M.Y

Hello,

I would like to propose that the City of Lausanne explore the possibility of installing a few autonomous retail outlets accessible 24 hours a day, distributed throughout different neighborhoods of the city.

The idea is not to keep all businesses open all night, but simply to allow residents to access a few retail locations at any time, particularly at night, when most stores are closed.

These stores could operate using automated systems: secure access, contactless payment, and no need for staff to be on site at all times.

In particular, they could propose:

  • Beverages and food items.

  • Sandwiches and prepared meals.

  • Hygiene products and basic necessities.

  • A few useful items in case of unexpected needs.

This could be particularly convenient for night shift workers, students, people coming home late, or simply residents who need to buy something outside of regular business hours.

I propose starting with a small pilot project involving two or three locations in strategic neighborhoods, in order to assess their foot traffic, usefulness, and feasibility before considering further expansion.

The goal would not necessarily be to create new municipal businesses, but rather to foster collaboration between the City, local merchants, and companies specializing in self-service retail solutions.

The goal is simply to make Lausanne a little more accessible and convenient to live in, including during nighttime hours.
