jardin de la cour des petits cailloux

1. The project in a nutshell

Transform the paved playground at the École des Petits Cailloux in Praz-Séchaud into a natural, educational space that fosters sharing.

2. The Project’s Objective

Create a green schoolyard that promotes well-being, community, and outdoor learning. Actively involve children and the neighborhood in this eco-friendly and participatory initiative.

3. The Project in Detail

This project aims to redesign the playground at the Collège des Petits Cailloux, which is part of the Coteau-Fleuri public school (but managed by CPCL, a project partner). The playground is dilapidated and lacks greenery and play areas. The goal is to transform the space into a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive place. This will meet the children’s needs while strengthening community bonds. Green areas rich in biodiversity (trees, native shrubs, gardens, flower-filled meadows, and a large bee hotel), play areas made of natural materials to stimulate motor skills, as well as tables and benches to encourage sharing and community life will be installed.

The “Paysage éducatif de Coteau-Fleuri” is the association leading this project. Children will actively participate in the design, planting, and maintenance of these spaces. This educational project will allow them to explore ecology in a hands-on way and develop a sense of environmental responsibility. Teachers will incorporate these new spaces into their lessons—particularly in science and physical education—while fostering positive social interactions. This participatory project also involves parents and neighborhood residents through collaborative work projects and awareness-raising events.

In addition to providing a safer and more welcoming environment, this playground will promote children’s physical and mental well-being. It will also strengthen community ties at the neighborhood level and help combat heat islands. Support us in making the Petits Cailloux playground an inspiring example of community living and biodiversity in the heart of Lausanne!
