African Dance at La Louve: Classes Open to Children and Adults in the Neighborhood

Avatar: Pont d'Ebène Pont d'Ebène

Short Description
From January to June 2027, Pont d’Ébène will offer a series of African dance classes at the Maison de quartier de la Louve, with separate classes for children and adults. Free for neighborhood residents, these classes aim to facilitate access to a cultural activity, encourage social interaction, and strengthen community ties.
Target Audience
Children ages 10 and up, as well as teenagers and adults ages 15 and up, from the Blécherette neighborhood in Lausanne—particularly members of families for whom cost is a barrier to participating in cultural activities.
Your Project in Detail
Pont d’Ébène plans to offer a series of African dance classes from January to June 2027 at the Maison de quartier de la Louve, open to residents of the Blécherette neighborhood in Lausanne. The cost of activities can prevent multiple members of the same family from participating. Offering free classes to residents aims to remove this barrier and provide children and adults with a regular opportunity to engage in a cultural activity and meet their neighbors. A free introductory session, included in the series, will bring children and adults together. Parents and children will thus be able to discover African dance, share an experience, and meet the instructors before signing up. The series will continue with two age-appropriate weekly classes: Mondays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for teens and adults ages 15 and up, and Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for children ages 10 and up. Registration will be on a quarterly basis. Accompanied by percussion, the sessions will include explanations, step-by-step instruction, a short break for refreshments, and a return to practice. No prior experience is required. The project aims to promote access to culture, self-confidence, and community bonds among residents of diverse backgrounds. The introductory session will be a time for families to practice together; regular classes will be held in separate groups. A voluntary donation will help support the association, with no obligation to contribute and no impact on access to the classes. The paid workshop, which is being planned separately, is not part of this application.
