Flavors & Knowledge: Eating Well as a Family Without Breaking the Bank

Avatar: Sonia Vieira Sonia Vieira

Short Description
This project aims to support families—particularly mothers—in adopting a healthier, more economical diet that is connected to their cultural roots. It is based on participatory and community-oriented workshops.
Target Audience
Women with children, primarily large families or single-parent households. Mothers from diverse cultural backgrounds. People who want to improve their diet on a tight budget.
Your Project in Detail
The current prevalence of low-cost processed foods, along with work pressures and/or the demands of daily life, means that families are cooking less and less. This project aims to encourage families to choose natural, plant-based foods and to cook together as a family, among other things. The project’s objectives are: 1) Raise awareness about healthier, more accessible, and balanced family meals. 2) Promote traditional culinary practices as a source of well-being and family bonding. 3) Encourage meal preparation at home, involving children. 4) Provide simple meal-planning tools to help families better manage their time and budget. 5) Foster culinary creativity using ingredients from their country of origin, particularly in school meals. Four half-day workshops will be offered to achieve the above objectives. Indicators: 1) Number of meals cooked per week at the start of the project vs. number of meals cooked per week after the project; 2) Number of families participating in this project (target = 12) 3) Number of times children helped prepare meals per week at the start of the project vs. after the project
