The Prélaz-Valency Neighborhood Association Celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the Sociocultural Center

Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Prélaz-Valency Sociocultural Center by highlighting its intercultural richness.

The project’s objective is to highlight and celebrate interculturalism in the Prélaz-Valency neighborhood since the Center’s opening in 2016, by demonstrating that this interculturalism is a lived reality, present today and intended to continue into the future.

Project Description: In 2026, the Prélaz-Valency Neighborhood Association will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Sociocultural Center at Chemin de Renens 12C. For this celebration, the association aims to bring residents together around three key themes: reflective assessment, current issues, and visions for the future. The overarching goal is to highlight the neighborhood’s intercultural richness. Project Development: The association is working across three timeframes. First, a “10th Anniversary Committee” was formed, comprising members of the executive committee and the program staff, to define the project’s broad outlines over the long term. Second, the “laboratory” phase. This involves collecting residents’ memories throughout June 2025 through various means (meals, workshops, forums, street interviews, surveys, and media collections) to build a common foundation upon which to shape the 2026 festivities and residents’ visions for the Center’s future. To this end, the association will reach out to the individuals who have brought the Sociocultural Center and the neighborhood to life: current participants in the Center’s activities, as well as former participants and committee members, both established and emerging groups, and the generations of youth, adults, and children who have kept the neighborhood’s heart beating through the Center since 2016. The 2026 festivities will mark the third phase and serve as the third unifying goal. By opening the “10th Anniversary Celebration” committee to residents wishing to join following the workshop in June 2025, the project, the organization of the celebration, and the preparation of the necessary materials will be on track for 2026. The 10th Anniversary Celebrations: The 10th anniversary celebrations will follow three themes: the past, the present, and the future. Celebrating the Past: Through a day and an evening of festivities featuring meals and music, the plan is to host the opening of two photo exhibitions—one indoors and one in a public space—as well as to screen and host the premiere of a film about intercultural connections in Prélaz-Valency. Let’s Celebrate the Present: Festive events throughout the neighborhood to mark the 10th anniversary—including performances, meals, exhibitions, concerts, speeches, and poetry—will be organized and hosted as part of the festivities. Let’s Celebrate the Future: Identify residents’ needs to help design the spaces and activities for their neighborhood center and create a brochure. Promote community involvement and participation in neighborhood life through forums and workshops.
