1. The Project in a Nutshell
: Democratize access to culture by organizing a cultural day at Plateforme 10 with 5H students from the Mon-Repos school’s APEMS program, teachers, and artists.
2. The Project’s Objective
Through art and culture, children will be introduced to the richness of Lausanne’s cultural institutions and will form friendships with children living in a different neighborhood of Lausanne than their own.
As they progress through school, they will undoubtedly meet again later in life and will thus be able to build connections based on a shared artistic experience.
This project aims to highlight the entire network of organizations working with children in Lausanne, which, through their diverse strengths, contribute to the children’s personal growth, enriched by a variety of encounters and experiences.
It will enable children from the various neighborhoods served by the Mon-Repos elementary school to come together at cultural venues in Lausanne, thereby providing equal access to culture.
3. Project Details
In January 2024, a call for participation will be issued to all 5H classes in the school buildings of the Mon-Repos campus.
Teachers may sign up voluntarily. A cultural mediator and an educator from an APEMS in Montolivet will serve as the organizers and coordinators of the entire project.
Depending on the number of classes registered, between three and five artists will be hired to create and lead workshops centered on a specific theme at a cultural venue in Lausanne. Plateforme 10 is already ready to welcome classes. Children will sign up for the workshops on a voluntary basis to explore an artistic technique over the course of a full day, alongside children from different middle schools.
During this day, teachers, APEMS educators, and children will actively participate and have the opportunity to build connections through an event free from any school-related constraints, with the sole goals of: exploration, creativity, discovery, and equal access to culture.
The goal is to repeat the initiative for three consecutive years, share the results with Lausanne’s schools and after-school programs, and successfully implement it in all of Lausanne’s schools.
