Cultural Day with APEMS at a cultural institution in Lausanne

Organize a cultural day at Plateforme 10, involving artists, educators, teachers, and 5H students attending the APEMS at the Mon-Repos school. Centered around a specific theme, workshops will be organized and led by artists. Children will sign up for the workshops of their choice and spend a day outside the school to explore an artistic field and meet other children from a different neighborhood who are connected through the same school.

Through art and culture, children will be introduced to the richness of Lausanne’s cultural institutions and form friendships with children living in a different neighborhood of Lausanne than their own. Throughout their school years, they will undoubtedly cross paths again, and will thus be able to build relationships based on a shared artistic experience. This project aims to highlight the entire network of organizations working with children in Lausanne, which, through their diverse strengths, provide these children with opportunities for personal growth enriched by varied encounters and experiences. It will enable children from the various neighborhoods served by the Mon-Repos elementary school to come together at cultural venues in Lausanne, thereby providing equal access to culture.

In January 2024, a call for participation will be issued to all 5H classes at the Mon-Repos school complex. Teachers may sign up voluntarily. A cultural mediator and an educator from an APEMS in Montolivet will organize and coordinate the entire project. Depending on the number of classes registered, between three and five artists will be hired to create and lead workshops centered around a specific theme at a cultural venue in Lausanne. Plateforme 10 is already ready to welcome classes. Children will sign up voluntarily for the workshops to explore an artistic technique over the course of a full day, alongside children from different middle schools. During this day, teachers, APEMS educators, and the children will actively participate and have the opportunity to build connections through an event free from any school-related constraints, whose sole goals are: exploration, creativity, discovery, and equal access to culture. The goal is to repeat the experience for three consecutive years, share the results with Lausanne’s school and after-school services, and successfully implement it in all Lausanne schools.
