1. The project in a nutshell

An interdisciplinary project by apprentices: an ashtray with a built-in shredder.

2. The Project’s Objective

The goal is to reduce cigarette butts on the ground. We’re focusing on Rue de Genève, an area in western Lausanne; that’s where we’re targeting our efforts. This is because there are several businesses in the area, as well as educational institutions—including the one where I teach—and because it aligns with my work in urban planning, which is my primary profession. It’s a multicultural neighborhood with a significant population and high tobacco consumption; moreover, we can provide a cross-disciplinary perspective through the workshops located on Rue de Genève, such as Ecotri, which works with the city’s sanitation department. Initially, we plan only to make one ashtray (to be determined) available, and later, if this proves successful, we’d like to install more throughout the city of Lausanne.

3. The Project in Detail

We are trainers from various training centers. We are taking a course at the HEFP as part of our professional practice. Through this Module B, we must guide our apprentices to present an innovative interdisciplinary project that incorporates the sustainable development approach. • Ashtray with built-in grinder • The apprentices (Automation Technicians, Operations Technicians, Social Education Assistants)
