1. The project in a nutshell

Bringing together an eclectic, multigenerational audience through music, painting, and dance.

2. The Project’s Objective

To be more attractive and inclusive to Lausanne residents in participatory events. The Get Down collective would therefore serve as the ideal interface, helping to generate excitement among the public by promoting musical culture and the communities that created it, as well as introducing people to the art forms of dance and painting—notably through a participatory mural. Thus, based on the identified themes, this proposal aligns with the “Culture,” “Social Cohesion,” and “Physical Activities” categories of the call for projects. This concept has the advantage of being adaptable to various urban settings. Ideally, the event would take place from 1:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

3. The Project in Detail

Get Down is a collective founded in 2018 by four experienced DJs and dancers, driven by the desire to bring together an eclectic, multi-generational audience for festive events inspired by the concept of the famous Block Parties (neighborhood parties), all in a positive and inclusive atmosphere. These events celebrate the richness of funk and Afro/Latin music, which emerged in working-class American communities, as well as the various disciplines at the heart of hip-hop culture: breakdancing, beatboxing, graffiti, and DJing. Building on 10 successful editions held at various venues such as the Romandie, the Bourg, the Bleu Lézard, La Galicienne, and the Lausanne neighborhoods of Bellevaux, Praz-Séchaud, and La Bourdonette, the collective has most recently distinguished itself with this project by organizing a neighborhood tour in the city of Yverdon. The collective has since gained extensive experience in organizing socio-cultural and artistic events. By sharing their passion for a multidisciplinary movement, the founders of this project help audiences discover both the connections between their artistic practices and the multicultural heritage that stems from them. Get Down’s carefully crafted visual identity sets the tone. Modular and dynamic, the whole forms a cohesive unit that reflects the collective’s spirit.
