Built in 1891, the Auberge de Sauvabelin has undergone many transformations (see history), adapting to changes in its surroundings. Following the restoration of the lakefront, the creation of a beautiful playground, and improvements to La Pinte, it is time to breathe new life into the Auberge to complete the picture and enhance the culinary offerings of this little corner of paradise (see results and renovation project).
To design the new Auberge de Sauvabelin, an initial public presentation of the new concept for the Auberge de Sauvabelin took place in December 2021 at the Grand Refuge de Sauvabelin. Those in attendance responded very favorably to this new project and its open-air café vibe. For more information, please read the report from this meeting.
Before launching the call for bids for the operation of the Auberge de Sauvabelin, the City of Lausanne’s Architecture and Housing Department sought—in parallel with the launch of an architectural competition—to consult the public more broadly regarding desired culinary offerings, atmospheres, services, and activities in order to define the concept for this new hostel.
To this end, a questionnaire was made available to you online and at various locations (Pinte and administrative buildings) between February 29 and March 21, 2022, to gather your opinions and expectations. We sincerely thank you for participating in this consultation!
After analysis, the results of this participatory process were compiled into a report and infographics, which were presented to the citizens of Lausanne at the Sauvabelin site on Saturday, May 14, 2022, in the presence of Ms. Natacha Litzistorf, City Councilmember in charge of the Department of Housing, Environment, and Architecture (LEA). This event also served as an opportunity to announce the winner of the Auberge architecture competition.
The results of this consultation were used to inform the terms of reference for the call for bids, which define the objectives and criteria that must be met by those interested in operating the new Auberge de Sauvabelin. Find the call for bids on the City of Lausanne’s website.
