The Pôle Gare Project

The Pôle Gare project is:

  • An area of nearly 30,000 m² undergoing major transformation

  • One of Switzerland’s largest construction projects

  • A doubling of the station’s capacity and passenger traffic

Ambitious projects centered on the redevelopment of the train station:

  • Place de la Gare, which will adapt to the needs of its 3,000 users per hour;

  • the “arts district,” which already is home to three renowned museums;

  • the M3 metro line, which will connect to La Blécherette;

  • the Rasude neighborhood, which will feature a mixed-use development;

  • and the surrounding neighborhoods, which will be redeveloped

And what about the neighborhood near the train station?

  • In 2017, an initial participatory initiative titled “Sous-gare, Take Your Place!” helped shape the competition guidelines for the redevelopment of the Sous-gare public spaces.

  • The neighborhood’s public spaces will be transformed by 2032, based on this competition and the work of the winning team.

  • The new participatory initiative aims to clarify expectations regarding the use of the various public spaces in the Sous-gare neighborhood.
