SuperMoms, Maternity Wards, and the Environment!

Avatar: Association SuperMamans Association SuperMamans

Short Description
Every week, more than 1,300 plastic bottles are used at the CHUV Maternity Ward alone. To reduce this environmental impact, a wonderful initiative was launched in the summer of 2025. Thanks to a partnership with the SuperMamans.ch Association, postpartum patients now receive their own reusable glass water bottle featuring the association’s colors. There are two goals: to reduce plastic by gradually phasing out disposable bottles in maternity wards and to promote the well-being of new mothers by encouraging them to get up and fill their water bottles at the water fountains already available. A small but beneficial step toward their postpartum recovery, which may even give them a chance to exchange a few words with their neighbors. The start of some pampering, thanks to SuperMamans, an organization that supports new moms and their families with meals, comfort, and a strong sense of solidarity, from pregnancy through the child’s first year of life.

Your project in detail
The SuperMamans organization aims to continue distributing its glass water bottles through maternity wards in Lausanne. This project addresses several major challenges facing families in Lausanne: welcoming a child, health, the environment, and social connections. Each year, more than 3,300 births take place in Lausanne, at the CHUV and at Clinique La Source. During this pivotal moment in family life, it is essential to provide parents with practical, simple, and meaningful support. By providing each family with a reusable water bottle, this project: Helps families adopt eco-friendly and responsible habits from birth by replacing plastic bottles with a durable, reusable item. Supports all families, without distinction, including those facing financial or social difficulties, by providing them with a useful item they can reuse daily for themselves and their child. Strengthens the connection between the maternity ward and community organizations: the water bottle serves as a tangible point of contact to raise awareness of SuperMamans’ work among parents, thereby making it easier for them to access compassionate, caring support if they need it after the birth. Addresses the increasing demand for assistance in the Lausanne region by raising the profile of a free, local support network. Encourages families to drink the water available at home—and anywhere in Lausanne at its 300 water fountains! The funds raised will allow the association to order enough water bottles to restock the CHUV and Clinique La Source next year.
