A Green Space for Families: The Green Courtyard at Les Petits Cailloux

Avatar: Julien Cart Julien Cart

Short Description
Creation of green spaces within the courtyard of the École des Petits Cailloux, where families and children can gather to relax, play, and support local biodiversity, while strengthening community ties.
Target Audience
Families in Lausanne, particularly those living in the Boveresses neighborhood, including families with young children, families facing social or economic challenges, and those seeking an accessible space for socializing and relaxation.
Your Project in Detail
The project proposes transforming the courtyard of the Petits Cailloux school into a green and welcoming space for families in Lausanne. The plan involves greening part of the playground by adding native plants, natural wood play structures, tables, and benches to allow families to gather outside of school hours. The goal is to create an environment conducive to relaxation, play, and education about biodiversity and the school’s gardening beds. Participatory workshops will be organized in collaboration with families in the neighborhood, where they will help plant vegetation and install natural play structures, thereby strengthening community ties. A giant bee hotel and a flower meadow will also be set up to offer children and parents an opportunity to learn about the importance of pollinators and biodiversity. The project will have a tangible impact on local families, particularly those with limited access to safe and accessible green spaces, by providing them with a welcoming and educational gathering place. It is also an inclusive space for families facing challenges, creating a supportive environment for intergenerational and social activities.
