12 The King and Queen of Games

1. The project in a nutshell
Our project involves creating a large wooden chess set as part of the “Jardin de poche” in Rue de la Tour. The goal is to create a welcoming space accessible to all chess enthusiasts, regardless of age or skill level. A playful installation that should encourage social interaction and enhance the character of the location.
2. The Project’s Objective
Chess has this wonderful ability to bring generations together. It is played by older people who grew up playing chess, as well as by younger people eager to learn and take on the strategic challenge. Thus, our project seeks to harness the power of this game and create a space where generations come together to share moments of play, learning, and camaraderie.
3. The Project in Detail
We will place great emphasis on the quality and aesthetics of the game, ensuring that it is credible from both a functional and aesthetic standpoint. The chess set will be designed using CNC machining, which will allow us to precisely cut the wooden pieces and easily assemble them. Using two different types of wood will make it easy to distinguish the pieces. An existing chest, thoughtfully integrated into the existing layout, will provide storage for the game pieces when the game is not in use. Management will be handled by the active community surrounding the pocket garden, which already relies on a team of dynamic neighbors who will be committed to looking after the game.
