1. Your project in two lines:
The markets will bring together, during the weekends in May and June 2024, food markets and craft markets with a space for exhibitions and live art.
2. The objective of your project (explain its purpose and how it will benefit one or more neighborhoods)
Our goal is to bring together different disciplines to create a fair-like space that is open to everyone. We also intend to create a vibrant space for social interaction within the Blécherette neighborhood, thereby fostering connections between residents of both the old and new parts of Blécherette, as well as with the wider Lausanne community.
3. Your Project in Detail
To kick off the 2024 season, Exobus would like to take advantage of the first rays of sunshine to organize a series of outdoor events in the courtyard of its premises in La Blécherette before setting up at various locations throughout the city of Lausanne to create temporary cultural spaces. Every weekend in May and June, we plan to host a market that will follow a similar format. From 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturdays, visitors will be able to shop at various food stalls (bakery, cheese shop, produce stand). The idea is to offer neighborhood residents a weekly gathering that allows them to shop closer to home. At the same time, people are invited to discover handmade crafts created by collectives and creative individuals. In addition, visitors will have the chance to browse through clothing that has been forgotten in the closets of Lausanne residents. At the same time, an exhibition featuring amateur, emerging, and established artists will take place in the courtyard and garden. To this end, artists and performers will be invited to participate in an artist residency in the weeks leading up to the events to conceptualize the space. This includes photography, visual arts, immersive art, dance, magic, poetry readings, collaborative paintings, and much more. Of course, the goal is to promote local artistic ideas and turn this place into a living, open-air gallery. To complement these afternoons, music will be played spontaneously by various DJs—what we call “Open Deck.” In fact, we want to give emerging DJs the opportunity to perform in a space dedicated to that purpose. With this in mind, we’re committed to inviting current local musicians to perform on our small stage, thereby fostering a sense of connection with the audience. Several evenings will therefore be dedicated to local concert-style music programming to highlight and promote Lausanne’s creative scene and give neighborhood residents the chance to enjoy a lovely, intimate evening that will last until midnight at the latest. Throughout these activities, visitorx will be able to grab a drink at the bar we’ll be running on-site and grab a bite to eat at the food stand, which will be run by a city staff member. In this way, we’d like to connect local cultural actors with the neighborhood residents to raise awareness of the association and its services. We’d like to make the most of the opportunity we have to use these temporary spaces, courtesy of the city. Finally, the Blécherette neighborhood and the residents of Lausanne will have the opportunity to sign up and participate in the market and, moreover, take advantage of these weekly events to showcase their work, share their knowledge, experiment with various ideas and activities, or simply have a good time with friends and family.
