1. Your project in two lines:
The "Stone Edge" project aims to carve certain rocks located along the lakeshore in Ouchy into seats, with the goal of creating a new gathering place in harmony with nature and the Lausanne landscape.
2. The objective of your project (explain its purpose and how it will benefit one or more neighborhoods)
To highlight the rocks of Ouchy by giving them a new purpose. To use nature as a raw material by shaping it through an artistic lens. Strengthen the connection between residents and nature by repurposing existing resources. Provide the people of Lausanne with a new space for relaxation, meditation, or socializing without altering the current coastal landscape.
3. Your Project in Detail
Following a discussion with the family-owned company Granit Design Sàrl, here are the two options for carrying out the project: Option 1: The stones are extracted and transported to the stonemason’s workshop so they can be worked on using machines that cut directly into the rock. Once the overall shape of the seating area is complete, the stones can be reinstalled in their original location. Finishing touches can be applied on-site, with a designated work area set up to showcase the stonemason’s craftsmanship. Option 2: The stones are worked on-site. Since stone cutting generates a lot of dust, a dust extraction system must be installed. Access to and stability of the area make it difficult to operate machinery there. Although more complex to implement, this second option avoids the need to move the boulders.
4. The amount requested to carry out the project (max. CHF 20,000—to be detailed below):
18,000
