Since Valency Park is of regional interest, a historical and landscape study of the entire park should be conducted before the project is developed.

1. Your project in two lines:
The “Vergers Oasis – Forest Garden at Valency Park” project aims to create a public edible forest with multiple layers, with the goal of establishing an oasis of biodiversity and food abundance in the city for park users and neighborhood residents. We plan to offer workshops and classes on the forest garden, biodiversity, food resilience, and other topics related to ecology and the health of both people and the planet. This project can be completed within the next 4 to 5 years and will remain in place long-term. Maintenance of the plantings and the organization of training sessions and workshops will be managed by the future association Vergers Oasis Lausanne.
2. The objective of your project (explain its purpose and how it will benefit one or more neighborhoods)
The space potentially made available by the City is approximately 1,200 square meters. Primarily sloped, it already features about fifty different fruit trees, as well as a canopy of tall trees that protect the site from the bise wind. This green space will be supplemented with standard trees, fruit trees, shrubs, herbs, perennials, and mushroom cultures grown on tree trunks, and perhaps even a small wetland area. Agroforestry techniques increase the resilience and biodiversity of the existing orchard and reduce water requirements. The Edible Forest Garden will create a pleasant, nourishing, and beneficial space for all wildlife, plants, and people.
3. Your Project in Detail
The “Vergers Oasis Lausanne – Edible Forests in the Park” collective A group of nine people launched this project by consulting with various stakeholders to assess its feasibility (the association is currently being established) Motivations: a love of nature and a desire to share; living in the city in a context of abundance; being agents of change; and fostering a project for the future for coming generations. Close collaboration with other stakeholders in the ecological transition—such as Graine Urbaine, Grands-Parents pour le climat, Graines de Ville, Mission B, Fête de la Nature, and the Centre de la Vie Enfantine at Parc Valency, anchors the project within a joint effort by all local stakeholders and aligns with the City of Lausanne’s “Nature in the City” and “Canopy Goal” strategies.
