The Book Gondola

Installation of a former cable car converted into a book booth and a bulletin board for classified ads and service exchanges among residents.

The neighborhood association ConvivAlpes would like to install a former cable car* that will be converted into a book sharing station.

The book booth is intended to be a permanent space for exchange and fellowship in our neighborhood. Drop off a book you particularly enjoyed and want to share, or take a book you’d like to discover—let’s keep culture circulating!

The book booth will be complemented by a bulletin board for classified ads to allow neighborhood residents to exchange services such as: babysitting, pet sitting, computer or math tutoring, furniture donations, etc. 

(*or a vintage phone booth, depending on the models and budget available)

4. The objective of your project (explain its purpose and how it will benefit one or more neighborhoods):

Currently, there is no community center in the Florimont/Chissiez neighborhood, even though there is strong demand for one.

This project is led by the neighborhood association ConvivAlpes, a nonprofit organization that works with a spirit of goodwill to foster mutual support and a sense of community among neighbors. The book booth aims to create a lasting space for exchange in the neighborhood, thereby fostering community and conversation among residents.

The participatory bulletin board that will be installed there will also foster discussion, mutual support, and community life, since all residents will be able to use it for their announcements or requests.

The book gondola will be accessible to everyone.

In addition, neighborhood residents will be invited to participate in transforming the gondola into a book gondola and in decorating it.
