Let’s get things moving at Fiches Nord! The environment comes first!

1. Your project in two lines:

Sports for everyone: We would like to provide our residents of all ages with lockers containing sports equipment.

2. The amount requested to carry out the project (max. CHF 20,000—to be itemized in the budget file, which must be downloaded, completed, and attached as an appendix):

We will need CHF 19,900 to carry out the project, as indicated in the detailed budget attached.

3. Details of your project (you can attach images and files later in the process):

The Fiches Nord neighborhood is home to a population of approximately 1,700 residents from 70 different nationalities. Sports are the best way to build connections and foster social diversity; they allow everyone to engage in an activity that benefits their physical and mental health.

When the neighborhood was built (between 2016 and late 2019), it was equipped with basketball, soccer, and pétanque courts, as well as ping-pong tables. To ensure optimal use, sports equipment must be made available to users, which would encourage anyone wishing to use these facilities to participate in sports.

To this end, the Swiss company BoxUp, based in Renens, has been offering a self-service and secure rental service for sports and recreational equipment since 2020. With this solution, users can borrow a variety of sports and recreational equipment for free via locker stations connected to a mobile app.

Our goal is to set up sharing stations with sports equipment in locations near sports facilities. The process is easy and involves three steps:

  1. Using a smartphone app, users can sign up quickly and completely free of charge (no credit card or deposit required), then browse and select the activity they want.

  2. They unlock the locker using the mobile app, take the desired equipment, and enjoy a fun experience.

  3. They return the equipment before the allotted time and follow the return procedure indicated on the app, which includes taking a photo of the equipment back in the locker.

BoxUp stations are manufactured in Switzerland and are entirely powered by solar energy, allowing them to be installed anywhere outdoors. They feature ultra-low-power technology for opening and closing doors, ensuring the system operates correctly according to the conditions set by the mobile app.

BoxUp handles the overall management of usage, users, and equipment. It also provides owners with access to an online platform where they can view anonymized real-time statistics for their station. This makes it possible to track detailed usage of the stations and receive direct feedback from the field, in order to better adapt the service over time.

4. The objective of your project (explain its purpose and how it will benefit one or more neighborhoods):

This is an inclusive project aimed at children, seniors, and neighborhood residents. This project addresses a need to improve the neighborhood’s quality of life and aims to:

a. Improve the range of activities available in our neighborhood—and thus our quality of life—by making this an inclusive project. Thanks to the City of Lausanne’s involvement through the participatory budget, sports programs can be accessible to everyone, regardless of social background.

b. also strengthen existing social ties through a friendly gathering where everyone can participate in improving community life in the neighborhood, take ownership of their living environment, and care for it.

c. Encourage the public to engage in sports that help them maintain good physical and mental health.

d. direct public resources toward the needs of the most low-income residents so that they can actively participate in a festive, free community event. Our neighborhood has a variety of housing types, ranging from subsidized housing to condominiums (PPE). As a result, the neighborhood’s population is diverse, drawing from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures—all of which are incredibly enriching. By making this activity free, the project aims to involve the entire neighborhood population.

5. The exact address of your project, if known, as well as the neighborhood(s) involved:

One station on Chemin de Bérée between 12b and 14a, and the other station on Chemin de Bérée between 30f and 30g

6. The name of your association (optional):

Association of Residents of Fiches Nord
