1. The project in a nutshell

Revitalize the multicultural Borde neighborhood by bringing neighborhood life to life through a mural.

2. The Project’s Objective

Some residents of La Borde feel discriminated against. Bringing people together in groups and creative working teams where they can speak freely—to get to know one another and overcome their fears—could help alleviate this feeling.

3. The Project in Detail

The new main thoroughfares in Lausanne must ensure that visitors feel welcome. A creative collaborative effort to beautify the walls and showcase the colors of the world through mosaics or murals (murals, paintings, ...) would, on the one hand, foster social connections in the neighborhood while the mosaics are being installed and, on the other hand, beautify the neighborhood and thus project a more positive image of it. We will be working with Embellimur and are already in contact with building owners to obtain the necessary permits. Our project is based on a participatory approach throughout the entire process of creating the mural, involving residents, artists, schools, community centers, and organizations. The process will be divided into three stages: Meeting phase: opportunities for discussion and sharing will be created to prepare for and carry out the artwork, which will allow us to get to know one another better and build cohesion through a shared goal and the exchange of experiences. Design selection phase: a call for creative ideas from residents (schools, neighborhood associations, and local communities) to select a design through a vote by the residents, which will determine the artwork in question. Creation of the artwork: in collaboration with Embellimur, the residents of La Borde will choose the most suitable colors and install the mosaics. In summary, this multicultural and intergenerational project (which will bring together different generations and cultures) will foster community life in the La Borde neighborhood and, at the same time, create a visual impact that will transform the space and how it is perceived by residents and passersby.

4. The amount requested to carry out the project

10,000 CHF

• Flyer and poster printing: 1,000 CHF

• Materials (mosaic and tools): 5,000 CHF

• Meals for volunteers: 1,000 CHF

• Embellimur: 3,000 CHF
