A participatory process is a sequence of participatory activities (for example, first filling out a survey, then making proposals, discussing them in person or online, and finally prioritizing them) with the goal of defining and making a decision on a specific topic.

Examples of participatory processes: a process for electing committee members (where candidates are first nominated, then debated, and finally one candidate is selected), participatory budgeting (where proposals are submitted, evaluated from a financial perspective, and voted on based on available funds), a strategic planning process, the collaborative drafting of a regulation or standard, the design of an urban space, or the development of a public policy plan.

You can submit your project until May 31, 2023. If you need help turning your idea into a project, please don’t hesitate to contact our team—we’ll be happy to assist you!

The City’s departments assess the feasibility of each project. Those that meet the technical and legal criteria are selected.

The selected projects are put to a vote by the residents of Lausanne of all ages and nationalities to allocate the available budget (CHF 200,000). Vote for your favorite projects (at least 3)!

We verify that voters actually live in Lausanne and that they have not voted more than once.

Projects have three years to be completed.

What is the Participatory Budget?

This initiative allows the residents of Lausanne to decide how a portion of the city’s financial resources is allocated by voting on a list of projects designed by the residents themselves.

There are two ways to participate:

1) By submitting an idea

Learn about how to participate and download the guidelines for the Participatory Budget;
Do you have questions? Get support and participate in the drop-in sessions offered by the City and its partners.
Team up with two other residents.
Fill out the online form and gather ten sponsors* to submit your project by May 31, 2023.
Your project will be reviewed by the relevant City departments to ensure it meets technical and legal requirements.
Promote your project to the residents of Lausanne. They will vote for their favorite projects (at least 3) starting October 16, 2023.
If your project receives enough votes, it will be funded, and you can begin implementation!

*Your project must be sponsored by 10 people who live in or have a connection to the geographic area covered by the project. By signing, these 10 people demonstrate their enthusiasm for the project.

2) By voting for projects

Allocate a budget of CHF 200,000 provided by the City among all the projects that have been submitted.
