1. The project in a nutshell

Community gardens in the Montchoisi neighborhood.

2. The Project’s Objective

Our project brings community gardens open to everyone to the Montchoisi neighborhood. Through these community gardens, our project pursues several objectives: 1. to allow residents to get their hands dirty and learn how to garden, 2. to create spaces and opportunities for residents to meet freely and build connections, thereby fostering social, intergenerational, and cultural cohesion, 3. to create pockets of biodiversity that allow everyone to reconnect with nature and to discover and support the neighborhood’s flora and fauna, 4. to create vegetable gardens where anyone can grow their own food, enabling them to eat locally, seasonally, and affordably, 5. Encourage residents and visitors to stroll and explore the neighborhood to discover its charm and embrace a slower pace of life, 6. Enable children and adults to observe the natural cycle and the changing seasons, 7. Allow residents to reclaim the neighborhood by using public spaces, 8. Experiment with a new way of collectively sharing and making decisions about a precious resource—urban green spaces, 9. Raise awareness about environmental and climate issues as well as food production, 10. Facilitate communication between city departments and neighborhood residents. Overall, our project aims to improve the quality of life and promote a zest for life in the Montchoisi neighborhood.

3. The Project in Detail

We want to create community gardens in both public and private spaces in our neighborhood. We envision these gardens as free, barrier-free, and open to everyone. We envision them as places for casual gatherings for some and more regular meetings for others—as spaces for sharing and creativity, where we can grow food and flowers, as well as foster connections and friendships among us, the residents and citizens of Lausanne. Our initiative proposes to share and make decisions about the precious resource that is nature in the city in a collective and equitable manner.

• Website, flyers, posters: 780 CHF

• Tools, equipment, planters, plants, 2 tool sheds, soil: 10,170 CHF

• Liability insurance, vehicle rental, deliveries: 1,650 CHF

• Miscellaneous, closing reception, drinks, and snacks: 1,420 CHF
